Jim Morris' debut album, Laid Back and Key Wasted, is a collection of Jimmy Buffett-esque tales of beach bums, drunkards, failed relationships, and odd characters. The music, too, is very Buffett — Texas country mixed with pseudo-Caribbean flourishes. The album's title track is a semi-autobiographical account of a corporate executive who drops out of the rat race to pursue a laid-back life of sand, surf, and fun; it sets the tone for the rest of the record and demonstrates that frivolous or otherwise, Morris treats his subject matter with the skill of a true storyteller.
