This CD draws its material from three different New Orleans jazz sessions recorded for Pearl and Center that feature trombonist Jim Robinson. Due to the somewhat erratic playing of some of the sidemen (most notably trumpeter Kid Thomas Valentine), this set is not essential, but there is certainly plenty of spirit. Four songs feature a septet from 1964; an octet jams on six numbers from 1965; and there is a rendition of "Gasket Street Blues" taken from a 1974 date. The emphasis is on ensembles, although there are solos from Valentine and trumpeter Ernest Cagnolatti, Robinson, the underrated altoist Capt. John Handy and clarinetists Sammy Rimington, Albert Burbank and Orange Kellin.
