Details
[Edit]Five sessions by the Jimmie Lunceford Orchestra are reissued in full on this French CD, including three alternate takes. The big band was in its early prime during the period, and these 19 selections include many memorable arrangements by Sy Oliver and Ed Wilcox, including "Miss Otis Regrets," "Stomp It Off," "Since My Best Gal Turned Me Down," and "Rhythm Is Our Business." The short solos by altoist Willie Smith (who doubled on clarinet), tenor saxophonist Joe Thomas, and muted trumpeter Sy Oliver compensate for the occasional indifferent vocals of Henry Wells.
