Details
[Edit]Pianist Jimmy McCracklin returned to form with 1991's My Story, his first effort for Bullseye Blues. Nine of the 12 songs on the album are brand new originals, all of which prove that McCracklin's talent for turning out well-crafted, memorable blues and R&B songs has not faded. Just as importantly, his chops are fluent, and he's arguably playing better than ever. Much of the album was recorded in New Orleans with a wonderful studio band, featuring drummer Herman Ernest and guitarists John Mooney and Wayne Bennett; among the highlights of these sessions are a pair of duets with Irma Thomas. A handful of cuts were made in Oakland, with Pee Wee Ellis leading a horn section. While the sessions don't quite have the same mood, both are stellar showcases for the revitalized McCracklin and, as My Story illustrates, it's just nice to have him back.
