This difficult-to-find LP has some solid no-nonsense Dixieland from veteran cornetist Jimmy McPartland, who had already been playing some of these songs for 30 years. Actually, his date does feature some obscurities, including "Third Street Blues," "The Albatross," "Lackadaisy Lazy," and the catchy "Basin Street Stomp" next to the standards "Oh Didn't He Ramble," "Ballin' the Jack," "Original Dixieland One-Step," and "There'll Be Some Changes Made." McPartland's sidemen include either Peanuts Hucko or Ernie Caceres on clarinet, trombonist Tyree Glenn, pianist Dick Cary, bassist Bill Crow, rhythm guitarist Al Casamenti, and either Cliff Leeman or George Wettling on drums. The music is very much in the freewheeling Eddie Condon Chicago jazz style and has plenty of spirit.
