Details
[Edit]On its debut album for Inpop, JJ Weeks Band offers Christian pop/rock with a distinctly Southern flavor. A string of well-received independent releases have helped season this Georgia-based quartet’s music. The presence of Third Day keyboardist Scotty Willbanks as producer lends the band a touch of studio polish without obscuring its down-home charm. Band leader Weeks has an expansive vocal style that combines country, R&B, and gospel influences, inviting comparisons with the likes of MercyMe’s Bart Millard and Big Daddy Weave’s Mike Weaver. His band plays with a crisp, convincing edge, veering from the retro soul shadings of “Is It Ever” to the upbeat revival sounds of “We’ve Been There” and the rock-waltz dramatics of “Flood Down.” Lyrically, the album’s songs favor an inclusive message that balances crowd-rousing hosannas (the title tune) with personal testimonies of commitment (“Screaming Out Loud”) and portraits of souls in need (“Save Us”). “Let Them See You” shows off Weeks’ songwriting abilities with its heartfelt lyrics and classic rock melody.
