[Edit]Folk-pop guitarist and songwriter Joe Rathbone crafts a compelling brand of acoustic-based American pop on his 2001 album Welcome to Your New Life. Produced by Michael Conrader (Destiny's Child, Aaliyah, and Michelle Shocked), the album has a warm, intimate feel, which is a refreshing surprise from a producer known mostly for his work with R&B artists. Brighter and more optimistic than his contemporaries like John Gorka and David Wilcox, Rathbone is in his element on simple, upbeat songs like "Victory Girl" and "Big Round Sun." While the album doesn't necessarily break new ground, Welcome to Your New Life is a welcome contribution to the contemporary singer/songwriter genre.
