[Edit]Mozart's unfinished Requiem is surrounded by legend. Commissioned in secrecy and conceived while the composer was fatally ill, it has been credited with conveying his premonitions of his own death. More far-fetched but equally alluring is the scene portrayed in the film Amadeus, in which Mozart dictates the terrifying "Confutatis" to Antonio Salieri, convicted by the rumor mill as Mozart's murderer. The angelic voices of Anne-Sofie Von Otter and Barbara Bonney, supported by the period instruments of the English Baroque Soloists, convey the fear of death and hope of an afterlife in this final statement from the world's greatest composer.
