[Edit]John Reuben rocks the mic. Are We There Yet is a release filled with urban hip-hop, rap stylings, and lyrics without pretense. "Do Not" is a groove that spouts living for God and exposing sin without sounding preachy. Reuben's rhymes here are hard hitting and fresh. The tune boasts a snazzy chorus that builds nicely while being sung by young children. "Gather In" should be a live crowd pleaser. With a tripped-out dance beat and well-placed scratches, the cut is a gem. "X-Ray" is a 180 degree turn. Snare high-hat, snare, high-hat intro an alternative-based venture. The chorus is a heavy one. Reuben ventures into P.O.D., Project 86 territory meshing lyrical screams, a heavy distorted guitar, and an eerie bass riff. "God Is Love" features Toby Mac, (aka Toby Mckeehan) of dc Talk. Well-placed acoustic guitars accentuate this infectious melody. Vocally Mckeehan drops a great rap and aids vocally in boosting a potent chorus. Are We There Yet? is a high-flying debut for John Reuben. The release is a perfect fusion of hip-hop and rap with a lyrical theme of personal struggle that is relatable to everyone.
