[Edit]Southworth's sophomore effort is a bit easier to swallow, musically speaking; working with producer Hawksley Workman seems to have tamed a lot of the quirkier elements of Southworth's style. Where Mars Pennsylvania spent a lot of time in a Kurt Weill-like world, Sedona Arizona spends a lot of time in the '60s and '70s, with beautifully constructed pop occasionally colliding with a funk undertow. Southworth still takes on the role of the outsider and milks his androgyny on the album's big hit single, "Cute Girls Gay Guys."
