Details
[Edit]Riding a wave of Hollywood momentum, John Waller's second project made a clear case for his strengths as a songwriter. The title track, "While I'm Waiting," was featured in the surprise indie film hit Fireproof, and as a result, fans of Waller's Christian AC pop could not get new music soon enough. Waller delivered for fans with another pumped-up, electric collection. He took full advantage of his time in the spotlight by cranking up the volume and delivering more light rock mixed with elements of praise & worship, not far from the likes of MercyMe or Steven Curtis Chapman. Waller deems his music "declaration songs" for their spiritual assertiveness, though the moniker is also fitting considering how closely it sticks to the blueprint of Chapman's 2001 album, Declaration. The Georgia worship leader seems to have perfected the art of individualizing scripture on tracks like "Dead Man," with its crunchy guitar licks, and "Our God Reigns Here," an anthem that does not back down in its proclamations of divine sovereignty. Even with an ample amount of upbeat fare, the album will always be remembered for its most pensive moment, the poignant and reserved title track, and its place in Christian film history.
