[Edit]This CD begins and ends with random street interviews backed by computer-generated music. The techniques employed are as varied as the answers of the interview participants. Appleton was co-designer of the Synclavier. In the '70s, he toured with this instrument, which is now used by Laurie Anderson, Peter Gabriel, and many others. To say that Appleton's music is diverse would be an understatement. Many tape pieces, created between 1966 and 1996, are included in his varied collages. In the liner notes, Appleton identifies two techniques: "abstract manipulation of timbre" and "the use of found music and recognizable 'objets sonorous.'" The notes also feature Appleton's remarks on each composition, as well as the time and place of each creation.
