[Edit]The musical prayers and meditations on Jon Thurlow’s Strong Love are remarkable for their simplicity, purity, and grace. The Christian singer/songwriter composed many of the album’s songs during worship sessions at Kansas City’s International House of Prayer, which may account for their quietly intense focus and unfiltered passion. Thurlow fleshes out his tunes with jazzy piano inflections and sings his Scripture-based lyrics with an easy-flowing, R&B-tinged elegance. The simmering rhythm and contemplative language of “Jesus, You’re Beautiful,” “Things Are Not Okay," and “Your Faithfulness” draw listeners close with slowly unfolding power.
