[Edit]A passionate and intense post bop tenor saxophonist, Jonas Kullhammar takes the innovations of John Coltrane and extends them in his own voice on Salut. While his originals are conventional, Kullhammar's solos hint in spots at the avant-garde without quite going over the edge; in other words, he is a forward-thinking hard bopper. Kullhammar's eight originals include a blues, viable jam tunes, and a couple ballads. The European rhythm section is excellent, supportive, and stimulating, inspiring Kullhammar to play at his best throughout. He deserves to be much better known in the jazz world.
