On For a Lifetime, the Journey keyboardist compiles lush musical Hallmark cards from the various weddings he's been asked to compose themes for over the years. Using synth strings to build graceful, soaring cradles for his short, sweet acoustic piano melodies (including a dramatic rendering of the 1981 hit "Open Arms"), Cain seeks to impart the flavor of each ceremony. An accordion solo on the waltz "Song of Calabria" conjures the Godfather theme for an Italian wedding; chimes and gentle cymbal touches speak of the Asian flavor of another. This culminates in his own new age meets classical take on "Bridal March," which he played at his own wedding. Taken individually, these are exquisite pieces. But as a whole, as one spoonful of sugar bleeds gently into the next, the disc will find its best home as background music while the crowd takes its seat before the ceremony - which seems to be Cain's intention.
