A very intriguing guitarist with a sound of his own, Jonathan Kreisberg is quite versatile. He can sound like a cool-toned jazz guitarist, but can also shift to a more rock-ish fusion sound and is quite lyrical on the ballad "Elena." His originals sometimes use unusual time signatures and/or rhythms and, though not containing catchy melodies, they draw one in. Along with the newer songs, Kreisberg plays an unusual 7/4 version of "Stella by Starlight" and a swinging "The Best Thing for You." His trio is augmented by pianist Gary Versace and altoist Will Vinson on a few of the numbers which adds to the fire, particularly on "Antlered Ego." This well-rounded and consistently colorful CD grows in interest.
