Details
[Edit]Honey is an excellent album of guitar pop (emphasis on guitar) from Jonathan Segel of Camper Van Beethoven. Feeling inspired by the guitar-heavy music he grew up on, Honey was a deliberate attempt to go in that direction. Not that these tunes sound like homage or pastiche. The tunes have all the hallmarks of Segel's solo material like Storytelling or his work with CVB. The difference is that the songs are all really opened up to make room for LOTS of epic guitar soloing (well over half the tunes are longer than five minutes and one tops 12 and a half). Even the shorter numbers have tons of guitar and nice solos. Sometimes evoking players from Frank Zappa to Richard Lloyd to David Gilmour or just laying down some feedback, Segel is a better guitar soloist than he may have let on with earlier projects. Good stuff.
