[Edit]The 1997 mini-album Old Wives Tales continued Joy Electric's move toward smaller but more detailed arrangements, making this eight-song collection one of the group's most interesting and listenable releases. The focus — particularly on the remix of "I Beam, You Beam" and "Marigoldeness" — is on percussion and washes of synth, instead of the manic bleeps and bloops that characterized Joy Electric's previous work. "The Golden Age" and the remixes of "Candycane Carriage" and "Burgundy Years" also elevate the quality of the songs, and provide a glimpse of the band's changing musical vision.
