Live At the Metropolitan Museum of Art

This is the audio portion of the public-TV special Judy Collins Live at the Metropolitan Museum of Art: Celebrating Fifty Years of Timeless Music. Performing in front of the Temple of Dendur, Collins sings the songs that established and sustained her career as a definitive voice of her generation. Her unerring ear for important and timeless songs was established early. She informs Woody Guthrie's "Pastures of Plenty" (joined by Ani DiFranco) with the same empathy and authority that she brings to Bob Dylan's "Mr. Tambourine Man," Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," and Stephen Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns." Shawn Colvin joins in for "Since You've Asked," the first song Judy ever wrote, which was at the behest of Leonard Cohen. Jimmy Webb plays piano on a stirring rendition of his "The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress." Where Bob Dylan continues to be an enigma, Collins remains an open book. Her voice has lost nearly nothing over the years. She's a pure example of an artist growing older gracefully.
