In 1990 June Tabor was joined by the Oysterband on the album Freedom and Rain. Now, 21 years later, the two reunite on Ragged Kingdom. The album features Tabor’s reworkings of traditional songs such as “Bonny Bunch of Roses” while also including some more surprising choices such as PJ Harvey’s “That Was My Veil.” The highly praised live cover of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” is finally committed to tape and sees her duetting with Oysterband vocalist John Jones.
