This 16-track collection features an eclectic array of artists who make a strong case for the songwriting genius that rests at the heart of the Cure's majesty. Cure songwriter Robert Smith always draped his musings in dramatic soundscapes that often obscured the simple magnetic pull of his melodies. This album exposes Smith as one of the top pop tunesmiths of the past thirty years. The hooks are everywhere: in the guitar lines, the keyboard riffs, and the simple elegant choruses. Hearing Kitty Karlyle brashly bash out "In Between Days" or Dean and Britta gently smooth over the bittersweet mood of "Friday I'm In Love," or the Submarines slow down and peel off the melody of "Boys Don't Cry" prove the indelible pop resiliency.
