[Edit]Now one of the Kompakt regulars, Justus Köhncke delivers one of the label's best left-field house productions with "Timecode," a wonderfully glossy and dramatic combination of early-'80s dance-pop and Italo-disco that imagines a parallel universe where Giorgio Moroder and "corny" were never synonymous. A bobbing beat, alternately prickly and rippling keyboard patterns that gleam like starbursts, stabbing interjections of synth to add suspense — and, naturally, the steady tick of a clock. For the B-side, "The Answer Is Yes," Köhncke delivers tinny dub-pop (with sighing strings and fuzzy guitars) that resembles a lost Europop hit. Given his love for covering songs both obscure and omnipresent, it might be exactly that.
