Although it may resemble a solo album and could be judged as such since there is only one vocalist, Kathryn Rose has assembled a large group to add specific hues and textures to each song. While the cover art might be a bit much to stomach, the guts of the album are readily visible, particularly the blues of "Too Easy" and "Mint," both of which have a Portishead quality to them. The groove on "On a Night Like This" is very soothing to the ears, with Rose doing just enough to keep the balance between vocals and music ideal. In a long line of credible Canadian female singers, Rose only falters occasionally on the opening "When You Come Along," seemingly misplaced among the dozen songs. The title of the album is also misleading, as romance more than being lurid resonates as the album's theme. This should be a building block in a very promising career.
