The Katinas are a group of five brothers banded together to proclaim truth via a funked-out Christian dance groove. Destiny is the type of release that runs the musical gamut from hip-hop to R&B to adult contemporary. The Katinas manage to fuse the stylings of the Backstreet Boys via "It's Real," the poignancy of 98° with "Thank-You," and the beats of Usher on "If You Really." The instrumentation on the disc is very well-presented. At times acoustic guitars are at the center, while a funky bass takes the stage on others. Weaved throughout the entire disc are lyrics that represent five men in continual praise and awe of their creator. Vocally, Destiny could be compared to any successful boy band in the secular arena. The lead vocals are tight, the harmonies are rich, and the production precise. There's not a more soul-drenched cut on the release than the title track. Here, the band offers up a solemnly sung tune with all the flavor and vocal power of Johnny Gill. Stylistically, the Katinas have managed to blend several grooves onto one delectable platter. Destiny proves to be a disc that adds spice to this Christian genre.
