Latin music expert Tony Sabournin hasn't hesitated to express his disdain for the term "world music" — as he sees it, using a single term to describe everything from Afro-Cuban son to Irish folk does the artists a disservice. But when a group is as eclectic as Keith Terry & Crosspulse, the term is both practical and convenient. This little known CD doesn't limit itself to African, Caribbean, Asian or Latin forms, but draws on all of those things in a very unpredictable way. Its acoustic format is minimalist in nature — mostly vocals and percussion, no horns, strings or piano — and the variety of percussion embraced comes from Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, as well as Asia. Overall, the disc isn't outstanding, but it's certainly enjoyable and often risk-taking.
