Details
[Edit]Although neither cornetist Kevin Clark nor pianist Tom McDermott is a native of New Orleans, they've completely absorbed the spirit on this duo CD of traditional jazz favorites. All of the compositions date from the '30s or earlier, many of which were once popular but have mostly fallen out of favor, with the obvious exception of "St. Louis Blues," heard here with some of composer W.C. Handy's original tango setting in its introduction. "Smiles" serves as a pep-filled opener; other highlights include Clark's fine muted horn on "Chinatown, My Chinatown," a gospel-tinged "Careless Love," and the inevitable "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans." An added bonus is the inclusion of five mouth-watering recipes that one can prepare and devour while listening to this very tasty release.
