Packed into less than 20 minutes are all the themes you’ve come to love from the bleeding-heart outlaw: paranoid insomnia, gangster shit, and a heaping side order of freaky tales (“Luv Bug”), all told in his weary, acrobatic rasp. “Asking my killers, what’s taking so long?” he croaks on “Case Closed,” a reminder that nobody throws down the life-or-death gauntlet quite like Gates.
