Hailing from Lawrence, KS, Kill Creek has cranked out energetic, impassioned pop/rock with dashes of punk and country for more than a decade. On Colors of Home, their third full-length (excluding numerous demo recordings), they distill their sound into short, hooky compositions with disproportionately great emotional impacts. "Mousetrap" is a head-bopping pop track elevated to greatness by a xylophone introduction and a soaring bridge. "Divorcee" is an acoustic, 5/8 meditation beautified by a trumpet-solo outro. Touches like these (not to mention singer Scott Born's highly literate but unpretentious lyrics) reveal that Kill Creek are very able veterans at their often thankless trade.
