Los Angeles-based Killradio make their Columbia debut with Raised On Whipped Cream, a catchy crazed album filled as much with polemic as it is with powerful punk revivalism. The Clash are a big influence here; "Classroom Blues" stutters its rant over echoing dub, while the title track cops the group's famous ultimatum. "What you gonna do when they come knocking at your door"? In this way mouth Brandon Jordan and his mates make protest music for the 21st century nexus of politics and culture, and join fellow Californians (and major labelers) S.T.U.N. and Red Tape in bringing that message to the Warped Tour masses. Highlights include "Scavenger," which offers a more anthemic version of Rancid, and the elastic bassline and tensile twists of "Freedom?," which should give the current crop of new wave/dance-punk assemblists a run for their money. First single "Do You Know (Knife in Your Back)" amplifies and punks up the '90s Brit rock sound. In the 20th century we were encouraged to kill our televisions. Now that that century is in the dustbin, it's time to Killradio.
