Inhaling the Breath of a Bullet

Following the same path as Drowningman and the infamous Anal C**t is Killwhitneydead, a blistering grindcore sextet who has given birth to sickening death metal riddled with samples, which is only the group's secondary charm. The most impressionable element of this six-piece's Tribunal debut, Inhaling the Breath of a Bullet, is the hilariously tasteless track titles. With songs titled "Hold Me Closer Tony Danza," "Starring Robert Downey Jr. As 'The Addict'," and "Is That My Blood or Hers?," it is a fair bet that Killwhitneydead isn't a band for the young ones. Musically, Inhaling the Breath of a Bullet is edgy and original, firing rabid bursts of enraged grind/metal that's absolutely drenched by some of cinema's most delicious quotes. It is rare to find a group this ridiculously heavy who incorporates samples into their repertoire so fluidly, yet Killwhitneydead does just that. The only mildly frustrating aspect of this album is that although the brief track length never lets one get bored, the group often just finds their groove when the song is cut short. In fact, Inhaling the Breath of a Bullet is so scattered and fragmentary it is definitely an album for someone suffering from attention deficit disorder. Eleven songs clocking in at just a hair shy of 14 minutes equals one lightning-quick album that fits perfectly as the backing soundtrack for committing criminal acts. ~ Jason D. Taylor, Rovi
