Details
[Edit]The 1987 concept album Abigail is widely regarded as King Diamond’s finest hour, and the accompanying tour was nothing short of specular. While concept albums don’t always translate well to live settings, In Concert 1987: Abigail brings the band’s historically macabre narrative to life. The band replicate the album’s running order precisely, hitting every tumultuous turn with ferocity and precision. These were some of the era's most ambitious and complex metal songs, but this band were up for the challenge of replicating them outside the studio. Andy LaRocque is one of the most electrifying guitarists in heavy metal history, while drummer Mikkey Dee could match him every step of the way. They dug into the complexities of these songs with an eagerness that doesn’t waver, even during the most demanding passages. While the group’s technical prowess remains intact, the real draw of this live recording is its intensity. Without a veil of studio production, King Diamond were free to engage their rawest edges. “Arrival,” “The Possession,” and “Abigail” leave no distance between the listener and the band’s bristling rage.
