[Edit]This 94-track history of Kiss issued in 2001 comes highly recommended for the inclusion of 30 previously unreleased band and solo demos, outtakes, and live recordings. Every serious fan needs this, and casual fans should consider it. The early performances of “Strutter” and “Deuce” show how the band originally envisioned themselves as part of the ‘70s glam scene, while the "Wicked Lester" demos go even further back to their pre-Kiss days, including a version of “She” that sounds like Jethro Tull and The Sweet. A 1966 Paul Stanley demo (“Stop, Look to Listen”) and a 1969 Gene Simmons demo (“Leeta”) further add to the set's archival cool. Further demos of “Firehouse,” “God of Thunder,” “Mr. Speed,” and “Love Gun” are pure fun, and outtakes such as “Doncha Hesitate,” “Mad Dog,” and “Bad, Bad Lovin’” yield further insights into the band’s creative process. Selections from the official Kiss albums are well-chosen and follow the group through Psycho Circus, with a decent amount of songs chosen for their live versions from the various concert albums.
