[Edit]After more than two years following a celebrated single and EP, the anticipated debut album by Sweden’s Korallreven is sure to hit home with anyone into the like-minded uplifting and electronic-based music of its contemporaries Air France, jj, Panda Bear, and The Tough Alliance. But the opening cut, “As Young as Yesterday,” reveals a hint of cosmopolitan Parisian-pop cool throughout An Album by Korallreven, which has more in common with Air and Phoenix. Korallreven is the duo of Marcus Joons and Daniel Tjäder (who moonlights in the dreampop band Radio Dept.). Some of Tjäder’s shoegaze influences surface in songs like the blissed-out “Keep Your Eyes Shut” and the lilting “Pago Pago.” The duo flirts ever so slightly with reggae’s repetitive staccato guitar riffs and bouncing rhythms in the sunny “Honey Mine,” where icy synthesizers approximate dubby melodica tones. Victoria Bergsman’s androgynous guest vocals here recall some Ace of Base moments (hardly a bad thing). “Comin’ Down” closes with nine minutes of elongated grooves stretched over a canvas of ambient soundscapes.
