A fixture in the hip-hop underground, KutMasta Kurt got his start as a radio DJ: first at Santa Cruz in the mid- to late '80s and then at Stanford's legendary program "The Drum" with Kevvy Kev. In 1996, Kurt worked on Chino XL's much-loved debut, Here to Save You All, but he hit the big time when he teamed with Kool Keith for the groundbreaking, genre-shattering Dr. Octagonecologyst album. That led to a long and prosperous partnership. The two would continue to record extensively, resulting in several more collabos, including Sex Style, First Come, First Served, Masters of Illusion (with Motion Man), and Diesel Truckers. Kurt has also provided always-on-point beats to acts like Dilated Peoples, The Beastie Boys, Linkin Park, and many more. Known for his impeccable sample chops and extremely punchy drums, he remains a favorite among beatheads worldwide. On this limited-edition EP, he gives us 10 instrumentals, ideal for just playing around the house, bumping in the whip, or backing up an aspiring emcee. "Head Spins," "Uprockable," "Drum on Son," and "Loose Foot" are especially nice.
