[Edit]Hailing from France, the five-piece La Fanfare Couche-tard celebrate the Balkan brass sound with elements of klezmer and gypsy swing jazz joining the party. The band have the rump-shaking grooves and soaring musicianship that are ingrained in the traditional (“Itinera”) as well as in the modern (“Bouzouknou”), yet they add a colorful sense of humor whenever bandleader, clarinetist, and singer Gregory Blaud steps up to the microphone (“Coupe Mulet”). This modestly priced album offers a lot of bang for your buck, with eight full-length songs bookended by short pieces; it would still be worth it at twice the price.
