Out of the Ashes is the fourth album from Lack of Limits from Germany. With their combination of instruments like fiddle, mandolin, accordion and tin whistles and their foundation in alternative rock they resemble bands like Oysterband and The Men They Couldn't Hang. At times, however, they rock much more fiercely that either of those two bands. On the traditional "Unquiet Grave" Lack of Limits attacks it with a metal approach similar to Motörhead. The unusual "Each Generation" features the chanting lead vocals of Eva Hase with a funky rhythm and soprano saxophone accompaniment. Hase's "Le Renard" incorporates an Irish fiddle line with the Aboriginal didgeridoo to create a unique dichotomy of sounds. Lack of Limits is another in a long line of clever German folk-rock bands like the Merlons, An Cat Dubh, Subway to Sally and Antichrisis. Creating one's own unique voice in an increasingly competitive sub-genre can be quite challenging but Lack of Limits accomplishes precisely that.
