Larry John McNally is a sophisticated, blues-based singer/songwriter. This album of unrelated songs is "loose ends" collected by McNally as the first non-Leni Stern album on Leni's record label. These two have had a fruitful history of studio collaboration in the past. It is McNally's "Black Guitar" that became a title track to one of Leni's albums. Alternating between sad and dark, there is a tangible longing and melancholy worldview propagated through McNally's album. His material, often sparsely played on the guitar, comes across as naked emotion and heartfelt observation. The strength of his material is in emotional impact that directly translates from McNally's experiences through this album and on to the listener. McNally is a singer/songwriter that effectively communicates real feeling through his songs.
