Many have described Lefty's Deceiver as a mix of the pseudo-D.C. post-hardcore sound and catchy pop hooks. Some of the post-hardcore stuff is evident on this EP, Process Junior, but lead singer Andy Williams' vocals are anything but soothing and the music isn't nearly as complex as any band from D.C. It seems that together, they fall short. Rather, Process Junior is an album with a lot of good beginnings, yet it could also use a lot of work. Some of the alternating distorted/jangly guitar parts ("January's Flight") were good methods by which to start a song, but nothing ever followed up to hook the listener in. The one crucial exception to the poor songsmanship was the finale, "Moher Song," which was darker in its texture and richer in its ability to pull out emotions and show a less energetic, yet sophisticated face to this Philly trio. Unfortunately, the song is cut off just when the band seems to be at the point of exploring some crucial jam material, which is a possibility to expand upon their strongest piece. Perhaps better production or the fleshing out of some ideas could make this a more profitable endeavor. For now, "Process Junior" stands as a release best left behind.
