When Dream Theater released Images and Words, it was only a matter of time before similar groups started to appear the world over. It was inevitable that this new breed was going to sport chops galore, interpretive lyrics, and a heavy sound. Lemur Voice's brand of progressive metal is actually more complex than that of Dream Theater. Their sound is dark and heavy, actually equating more with the sounds of death metal than heavy metal. It may actually be too dense and heavy for the modest progressive fan and too complicated for the average metal fan. "Akasha Chronicles" is an intense instrumental that flexes the band's instrumental prowess. Singer Gregoor Van Der Loo sounds a bit like Sting and has a wide vocal range that contributes to the band's effectiveness. Marcel Coenen has an impressive, albeit predictable, technique on the guitar, but it is drummer Nathan Van De Wouw who proves to the star of this band. It is obvious that he draws from fusion and jazz influences which, combined with his metal chops, makes for a very impressive and individual style.
