Details
[Edit]Lenny Kravitz’s unusual brand of retro-rock has consistently connected with his audience, who—like Kravitz—value the sounds and textures of the classic rock that remains his true inspiration. Kravitz mixes the sentiments of the late ‘60s with the soft pop and funk of the early ‘70s as if the following decades barely happened. “If I Could Fall in Love” could be a shoegazer anthem if it weren't wrapped so well in fuzzy, lysergic guitars and a pumping aggression underneath its psychedelicized vocals. “Battlefield of Love” is a pure stomper that any number of early-‘70s hard rockers would love to lay claim to. “Stillness of Heart” evokes John Lennon in its spare, direct melody, which explodes into a lush bed of chugging guitars and smooth organs. “Believe in Me” adds a few extra rhythms to its loving sentiments and a nice flourish of Spanish guitar. “God Save Us All” is Kravitz’s “big” statement, where he tries his hand at writing something for everyone but ends up with a barroom rocker.
