[Edit]Lenore Raphael started to draw the attention of the jazz world with her initial recordings in the early 1990s, which eventually led to an invitation to appear on the NPR series Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz.This trio date with bassist Mike Bocchicchio and drummer Roger King, Jr. is an enjoyable outing. Her voicings in the relaxed setting of "Sometime Ago" and the emotional arrangement of "You Don't Know What Love Is" are reminiscent of the late Bill Evans. She's a solid bop interpreter as well, offering an easygoing rendition of Charlie Parker's "Billie's Bounce" and mastering Oscar Pettiford's intricate "Tricotism." Her one original is the playful "Johnny Jazz," an upbeat number dedicated to a friend. Lenore Raphael's third CD as a leader swings effortlessly and is representative of her work as a leader.
