Details
[Edit]Meteora was the follow-up to Hybrid Theory—Linkin Park's commercial juggernaut of a debut album—and was even more successful. "Numb" was a massive hit and a welcome pullback of sorts in the group's attack. "Breaking the Habit" pushed boundaries further, adding live strings to a track more in thrall with electronica than nu-metal and leaving rapper Mike Shinoda on the sidelines. "Easier to Run" captured a melancholy that strikes an aura of pain and suffering. Despite the passionate aggression of tunes like "Nobody's Listening" and "Don't Stay," it's clear that this was a band looking to break past the limitations of the genre (with an audience hungry for that change) and one that would eventually make albums far beyond its initial influences. The original album was a lean machine, with 12 songs (and a 14-second "Foreword"), none trespassing beyond the 3:37 mark of "Somewhere I Belong."
