Little Sister released two live albums and a self-titled debut effort before they changed their name to Sister 7. Their self-titled debut is the type of record you expect to hear coming out of a jukebox in a seedy, out-the-way southern bar in the wee hours of the morning. The opening song, "Meantime," introduces a soulful sultry singer, Patrice Pike, whose vocals weave between a funky groove, invoking a slow, bluesy wave of ambience. The most radio-friendly track, "Nobody's Home," envelops the best the band has to offer with a hooky chorus and some wailing guitar work compliments of Wayne Sutton. Unfortunately, the album then tends to fall into a rut of reproducing slight variations of the same groovy formula for the remainder of the record. There's not quite enough versatility or originality to elevate the material to attain any sustainable mainstream favor.
