[Edit]Lokyata's metalcore and math rock-metal blend may be as pervasive as pie in the mid-2000s, but thanks to guitarist Tony's incredible chops and unpredictable versatility (including doom-style riff breakdowns, jagged shards of dissonance, and high-speed melodic shredding, amongst a bevy of other tricks), every one of the six tracks on Purified by Anger has something special to offer. Opener "You Can't Say Much with a Gun in Your Mouth" may be a little too clever for its own good, but impressive subsequent cuts like "What You Have Given to Me," "Cover Up My Eyes," and "Wretched Inside" make up the difference with generally intelligent lyrics and totally unexpected structural twists and turns. For fans of Meshuggah, the Dillinger Escape Plan, and Unearth, this EP is really worth checking out.
