Vacant Hearts EP

Few groups establish the kind of authority that the U.K.’s Lola Colt already demand on their debut EP, Vacant Hearts. It demonstrates their cinematic, gothic-tinged, tribal rock from a striking sextet of three women and three men who take their name from a ‘60s spaghetti western. Fronted by magnetic female Danish vocalist Gun, Lola Colt began with the idea that Gun and lead guitarist Matt would compose material meant for a film not yet made. That sense of drama carries through the four cuts that include the band’s debut Too Pure single, “I Get High If You Get High/Boom Boom Blasphemy,” the attention-demanding title track, and “Diamonds,” which is also considered the second single from this EP. The band have already recorded their debut album with Jim Sclavunos, whose résumé includes being a member or former close creative consultant to Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Grinderman, The Cramps, and Sonic Youth. The album is scheduled for late 2014.
