Los Campesinos de Michoacan is split roughly half-and-half between a session the group did in November 1985 and one they did in February 1987. The personnel altered between sessions, although group leader Salvador Baldovinos (who sings and plays harp) and his singer wife, Elisa Baldovinos, participated in both. Though there are differences between numerous areas of Mexico in the traditional music produced by the regions, to most listeners not deeply schooled in the sounds, this will for the most part sound like average Mexican traditional fare. It's heavy on the violins, vocal duets, and merry rancheras, though Salvador Baldovinos' harp adds a more specifically Michoacan element. At times another relatively unusual factor comes into play when a rhythm is beat out on the box of the harp itself.
