Details
[Edit]Los Difuntos come off like a cross between the Clash and the Stray Cats on their self-titled debut album, which follows a successful EP, Born, Raised and Passed Away in East L.A., the title song from which is repeated as the closing track. Boasting a standup bass player, the group definitely has a rockabilly orientation, but that is only a part of its mixture of roots styles, often played at breakneck speed. The lyrics sung by Christian Torres can be angry and abusive or (on "Memories") highly complimentary, but even when he's spitting out obscenities Torres maintains melodic appeal, which makes him a nice guy, for a punk. There are also instrumentals such as "Dirge," which, despite its title, makes the band sound like the Ventures on steroids. And on "Lies in Disguise," they mix in a ska feel. This is a talented hard rock band with a hybrid style and lots of energy.
