Details
[Edit]Although a veteran pianist, this CD was Lou Montelione's recorded debut as a leader of a jazz date. The quartet includes John Stubblefield on tenor and soprano, bassist Michael Logan and drummer Cecil Brooks III, and is quite impressive, as is the repertoire. Stubblefield has a rare opportunity to play standards, and he adjusts his style and fits in perfectly. Montelione, a fluid player, contributed two excellent originals ("Comin' Back Home" and "Love Theme for My Family"), and in addition to some better-known tunes also performs Scott LaFaro's "Gloria's Step" and David Benoit's "Some Other Sunset." An underrated and high-quality modern mainstream date.
