Details
[Edit]German composer Helmut Lachenmann is a post-avant-gardist writing music for the extremities of classical instruments. On this LP the works employ the extraneous noise of string instruments with the intention of developing them into a musical language. Like Luigi Nono and Maurucio Kagel, the scrapping and sputtering effects are employed to the maximum, making for an abrasive listen. Similar experiments employed as token gestures in post-serialist and avant-garde composition have not touched on the mastery with which Lachenmann arranges these works. Highly academic work which sits somewhere between avant-gardism and the new complexity movements.
