Details
[Edit]A hip-hop supergroup with seasoned vets representing for multiple boroughs, Luv NY is the brainchild of producer Ray West, who's assembled an all–New York dream team comprised of weirdo-rap pioneer Kool Keith, Diggin in the Crates members AG and OC, Long Island criminologist Roc Marciano, and Uptown duo Bamboo Bros (Kurious and Dave Dar). The resulting album is a must for middle-aged B-boys and respectful youngsters alike, a short-but-sweet ride down memory lane and a lyrical love letter to the city that started it all. West's loop-driven beatwork works great here (as it did on AG's Everything Berri album). It's loaded with moody piano loops, thick breakbeats, finely chopped soul samples, and exotic sound effects. Though released somewhat under the radar with little publicity, this was one of 2012's nicest records. Check out "Extreme Status," "Shorties Watching," "Pressure Up," and "The Ritual."
